Who Would Have Known?!

At the tender age of 21, a dear friend of mine decided to end his life. It came as a surprise to all who knew him. We have asked ourselves both verbally and silently, "What happen?!" "What would drive him to do such a thing, especially based on the jovial, selfless spirit that he possessed?!" While we don't and may never know the answers to such questions, one thing is for sure... My friend left behind many great memories to reflect upon and changed countless lives for the better. We will FOREVER love and miss you, my friend. You will never be forgotten!

Who would have known The weight that was on your mind? Who would have known You would decide that it was your time?

Yet, to this day Your laughter still rings in my ear And to this day Your jesting voice I still long to hear

My friend, if only you knew How much we love you and miss you so very much My friend, if only you had a clue Of the hearts and the lives you have so deeply touched

There’ll be no need To live our lives in yesteryear There’ll be no need To dry our eyes from the sadness just because you’re not here

The “would-a beens” We would be fulfilling today There’d be no “should-a beens” That may have prevented you from taking yourself away

But it’s those “could-a beens” That make us realize, just maybe we slacked on the love, concern and care we were to relay

Your presence here Has been etched into our minds

Our selfish desires Make us wish we could turn back the hands of time

Yet, the questions still linger As we try to make sense of the unknown

Is there ANYTHING we could have said or done... If only we would have known!
